Am I a victim or am I coming closer to the Light?
When we sacrifice for another person, organization or an institution, we give of ourselves “at our expense”, sort of speak.
Actually, everything depends on the way we see things – the meaning we give them.
How I speak determines how I think and feel.
In the past weekend, I volunteered to be a part of Tony Robbins staff, who came to my area for his event.
I was one of three hundred staff members, men and women who came from all corners of the world, yes you heard right, I said all corners of the world, to give for a purpose greater than themselves.
In the past five days, I have neutralized myself from my normal life routine. I worked hard, slept little and still, I feel blessed.
Why blessed? With the change in my life, since I attended Tony’s event in Chicago, three years ago, presents to me a testimony to the fact that Tony’s event, “Unleash The Power Within”, indeed released something within me.
Since the change in my life, “I have stepped up”, now, I have an opportunity to be an integral part of the change for the better that can occur in the lives of others.
I’m not just coming from a place where I feel that I have to sacrifice myself for this cause, only because it is the right thing to do. It’s true, and I think it is also very important to contribute from ourselves in some way to the society in which we live in, but it is not the only reason.
No matter if we contribute to an organization, a person we support the message he conveys, or we stop in the middle of a road to help someone change a tire, something within us compels us in humility to be of assistance, to improve a situation for the better.
We take the time we could spend on ourselves, our resources and energy, and give them to something other than ourselves.
Why are we really doing this?
The root of the Hebrew word korban (sacrifice) is K.R.B.
It is the root of hitkarvot as well, coming closer. Coming close to what, to whom?
The word also means a battle. What battle? Against whom?
According to Kabbalah, (Jewish mysticism), there’s a constant battle going on between our natural inclination to please ourselves only – the physical part of ourselves and of the soul to experience Light – inner filling, loving, giving – being one with the Creator.
Every time we give of ourselves from a place of happiness and true love, and not from a victim awareness – what can I do, I have to suffer so others can be happy … we are ascending a little more.
If I’m happy and coming from an awareness of a tremendous privilege to serve and influence for the better, my joy is pulling the Holy enlightenment into my life.
With what intention am I doing things?
If I have no other choice, and this is my attitude every time I do for others, I step away from the Light, I am not coming closer.
When we do acts of kindness in this world, we connect to the upper worlds.
We’re not doing anyone a favor, only for ourselves. This is a battle going on within us constantly – being in a victim mentality or coming closer to being one with Source/G-d.
In my personal experience, although I gave from myself for an entire weekend for Tony and his message, I still feel I received back a thousand times more.
The fact that I was a part of a team whose sole purpose was to help, support a change in the lives of others for the better, gave me an immeasurable experience of inner fulfillment. It is so vast and cannot be matched by any other experience where I am the only one who benefits.
I thank God for this privilege and I encourage everyone to do the same.
Thank you for taking the time to read.
You are so very welcome 🙂
